Introduction to Printmaking Details:
In this two-day workshop, you will be introduced to Linocut printmaking techniques, and create your own original artworks. Linocut is a relief printmaking technique where a design is carved into soft linoleum to produce a raised, uncut surface representing the image to be printed. The raised surface is inked, then pressed onto paper to create a mirror image of the carved design. You will explore hand-pressed processes, as well as practice with the printing press in Mary’s studio.
MATERIALS: Mary will provide the following materials for use throughout the workshop: soft rubber and linoleum sheets for carving, carving tools, transfer paper, ink, inking surfaces, rollers/brayers, printing press and barens, printmaking paper.
You bring your ideas, inspirational pictures, designs, and curiosity.
DRESS: Wear clothes you don’t mind getting ink on, and/or an apron.
TAKE HOME: You will leave this workshop with a better understanding of the linocut process, printmaking notes, and your original prints.
